The BioArt Bayou-torium

Created by artist Henry G. Sanchez, the Bio-Art Bayou-torium is a bilingual, socially practice, bio-art project originally based in a shipment container.  Its mission is to bring an aesthetic and informational art experience to cultivate stewardship of Houston's Bayous among our bilingual and Spanish-speaking residents of Houston’s East End neighborhoods. Natural science and art making activities are inspired by the flora and fauna of Buffalo Bayou.

GOALS

The BioArt Bayou-torium cultivates an environmental awareness of Buffalo Bayou:

promotes Houston’s greatest natural resource and asset;

fosters public stewardship of Buffalo Bayou;

builds an inclusive art project that attracts our historic Hispanic communities to Houston’s wildlife backyard;

re-imagines the possibilities of art and science working together;

contributes to the tradition of Houston artists working outside the art market, away from institutional walls and in the public commons.
